Welcome to the home page of PENS! Prairie’s Edge Nordic Skiers (PENS) is a club for cross country skiing enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Our goals are to bring local skiers together for social and educational activities, promote XC-skiing as a healthy activity to the greater community, and to promote better and more consistent trail grooming in the Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN area.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING AND SKI OUTING - Saturday, March 16, 2013
Join us for a ski outing at VIKING SHIP PARK at 10:00 am. Ski the trails and see the trail grooming equipment as well as a grooming demonstration. At 11:30 a.m., meet at USHER'S HOUSE (upstairs) for a PENS Club Social where appetizers will be provided (additional food and drinks may be ordered from the menu at your own expense). The Annual Membership Meeting will begin at 12:00 p.m. Learn more about the PENS Club, nominate new board members, and provide feedback and ideas to keep cross country skiing going strong in our community. At 1:00 p.m., ski the trails if you couldn't make it earlier or if you want to ski again. Please RSVP to lcsivertson@yahoo.com. so accommodations can be made for Usher's.

Saturday Ski at Spidahl's Ski Gaard - Feb 2!
FINALLY decent snow and Saturday temps in the 20s! If you've never been to Spidahl's you're in for a treat; lots of rolling hills groomed for skate and classic. Plenty of beginner and intermediate trail with exciting expert terrain as well. Rentals available, reasonable trail fees. PENS will serve lunch (soup/sandwich) 1:00 – 1:45. Free for Paid PENS memberships/ $5 for guests. Bring your own beverage. Come early and stay for lunch, or show up for lunch and ski in the afternoon!
Rainbow Romp - January 26-27!
Please join us at the PENS annual “Rainbow Romp” this Saturday Jan 26 from 11-6. Come and go as you please. Weather and trails are looking GREAT! An excellent opportunity to ski in the woods.
Several people are also renting cabins Saturday night and skiing Sunday, as well. Make a
weekend of it and join us if you can!
*Trail fee $5 to Rainbow, but LUNCH is Free to PENS members, and $10 to
guests.
**BRING YOUR OWN BEVERAGE, (and a snack or treat to share if you wish.)
As you park at Rainbow, you will see the PENS banner on Cabin 2.

Cross Country Ski Expo at Paramount a Success!
Thanks to everyone who joined us at Paramount Sports in Fargo for the Cross-Country Ski Expo on Saturday Nov 17th. Paramount Sports has new ski gear (and fat bikes!) that are sure to inspire you to get out and enjoy our winter sports season. Stop out and get geared up for the ski season!
We had a Great Time Clearing Trail at MB Johnson Park!
Moorhead Parks has done a fantastic job of clearing trees and widening and flattening a new trail system at MB Johnson Park in North Moorhead! This is by the river down in the trees with significant wind-protection, and promises to provide some great skiing this winter! Special thanks to trailblazers Jeff Quam, Arnie Ostgarden, Kelly Sassi, Erik Berg, Gina Kinzler, Jay Richardson, Laura Sivertson, Bruce Ray, Nick Carlson, and others for the fine effort! Before the snow falls you should go for a walk and check it out. HUGE THANKS to the City of Moorhead and their Parks Department for these improvements! If you're a Moorhead resident, feel free to let your city leaders know how much you appreciate this.
Hjemkomst Trail News:
PENS will be grooming the lighted Hjemkomst trail again this year. Thanks to your membership dues, PENS was able to purchase the snowmobile to pull our grooming equipment. We are working with MHD Parks to get all the lights lit up.
New Grooming Equipment
Moorhead also has purchased some new grooming equipment, so PENS and MHD parks staff will be grooming the MB Johnson trails. Ski equipment rental may also be available this year.
Ski Lessons at Edgewood in Fargo
PENS will be teaching the Fargo Parks Ski Lessons again this year. We welcome volunteers to assist with this program.
